What is FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE?
FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE is the first HD-2D game in the Final Fantasy series, co-developed by Square Enix and LANCARSE. It adapts the first story arc of the mobile game Final Fantasy Brave Exvius — the Lapis arc — and rebuilds it as a full console-quality, single-player JRPG with no microtransactions.
First HD-2D Final Fantasy
Pixel-art nostalgia rebuilt in high definition — a world of crystals and airships that blends classic Final Fantasy charm with modern presentation.
Stagger Combat
Hit enemy weaknesses to build the stagger meter, break defenses for extra turns, and unleash all-out Resonance attacks with your Visions.
Visions & Espers
Cloud, Y'shtola, Terra and more fight beside you as Visions, while Fina summons espers like Siren and Ramuh into battle.
No Microtransactions
A console-quality single-player JRPG rebuilt from the ground up — no gacha, no premium currency, just the full story experience.
Combat is a strategic turn-based system, not ATB: exploit enemy weaknesses to stagger them, break their defenses to seize extra turns, and unleash powerful Resonance attacks. Travel by airship across a world of crystals, recruit Visions — echoes of beloved Final Fantasy characters — and guide Rain, Lasswell, and Fina as they face Veritas of the Dark.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE?+
FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE is the first HD-2D game in the Final Fantasy series, co-developed by Square Enix and LANCARSE. It adapts the opening story arc of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius — the Lapis arc — and rebuilds it from the ground up as a console-quality single-player JRPG with no microtransactions. You guide Rain, Lasswell and Fina across a world of crystals by airship, recruiting Visions and espers, and confronting Veritas of the Dark.
How does the turn-based combat work?+
Combat is classic turn-based rather than the ATB gauge of earlier Final Fantasy games. The turn order is displayed at the top of the screen. Hitting an enemy's elemental weakness builds their stagger meter, and once fully broken they are staggered — you enter a bonus phase with extra turns. When every enemy on the field is staggered, you can call on a Vision to unleash an all-out Resonance attack for massive damage.
What are Visions?+
Visions are echoes of iconic Final Fantasy characters — Cloud from VII, Y'shtola from XIV, the Warrior of Light from I, Terra from VI and more — who join your party with unique skills. You unlock them at shrines scattered across the world, which include story montages and series knowledge quizzes. Each Vision can be equipped to a party member, levels up independently, and can be switched in cutscenes and during battle.
What are Espers?+
Espers are the classic Final Fantasy summons — powerful beings like Siren and Ramuh that can be called into battle to turn the tide. Fina is the only party member who can summon espers, acting as the party's true summoner. You recruit each esper by completing an optional dungeon and defeating them in a tough boss battle, then earn their allegiance.
Who can summon espers?+
Fina is the party's summoner — she is the only playable character who can call espers into battle. This is a core part of her identity: alongside her white magic and archery, she communicates with espers and can summon them when their gauge is ready. Choosing the right moment to summon — for healing, damage or crowd control — is one of the most important decisions in a boss fight.
How do I unlock Visions?+
You unlock Visions by finding vision shrines located across the world. Each shrine unlocks a specific Vision and typically includes a story montage of that character's home game plus a knowledge quiz about the series. Confirmed Visions include Cloud, Y'shtola, the Warrior of Light, Terra, Zidane, Shantotto and Tidus, with more expected to be revealed closer to launch.
Is this a gacha game like Brave Exvius?+
No. FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE is a full single-player console RPG with no microtransactions. It only adapts the story of the Brave Exvius mobile game — it does not reuse its gacha mechanics. There is no premium currency, no random pulls, no energy system. All characters, Visions and espers are earned through story progression and optional content, priced at a standard $49.99 for the base game.
How long is the game?+
The main story takes roughly 30 to 40 hours to complete. If you pursue optional content — Gilgamesh encounters, the Colosseum, the Chamber of Arms, optional dungeons and the Ultima Weapon showdown — a full 100% completionist run can stretch to 60-80 hours. That places it in line with classic Final Fantasy games rather than the shorter modern RPGs.
Which edition should I buy?+
There are three editions. The Standard edition is $49.99 and includes the full game. The Digital Deluxe edition is $59.99 and adds digital extras such as the soundtrack and art book. The Collector's Edition is $209.99 and includes physical goods plus the digital deluxe content. For most players the Standard or Digital Deluxe edition is the right choice, but collectors who want a physical package will want the Collector's Edition.
What is the pre-order bonus?+
Pre-ordering any edition of FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE grants the Magitek Airship & Squire Starter Pack. This bonus includes a Magitek Airship for fast overworld travel and a Squire starter pack of gear and items. The bonus items are claimed from the postbox in the Town of Mitra once you reach that point in the story, so you do not receive them at the very start of the game.
